Nintendo Is Working On New Hardware
There’s been much discussion of the reasons for the long life of the current generation of game consoles, but it looks like one of them may finally be on the way out. It turns out to be the one most in need of a hardware refresh, the Wii. According to a statement from Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo is currently working on new hardware.
There isn’t much to go on beyond that. The company has previously downplayed the need for a new version of the ultra-successful Wii. It is possible we will just see a slightly modified Wii console, and not an entirely new generation?
So in a year you could find yourself with a Wii HD, or maybe just a Wii that lets you dock that DSi XL you totally have. What would you want to see in a new Nintendo console? Does it need to have HD to compete?

Ah…. Does any hardcore gamer still care about the Wii? I mean seriously, Nintendo has made it abundantly clear that they are more interested in the casual gamer market than us. They rather have grannys playing their games then a large group of us that work hard and play hard. I got sick of Nintendo AFTER the Gamecube, and I’m glad I didn’t even bother with the Wii. We all know the facts, the Wii is NOTHING more than a supped steroidic Gamecube. Even if the rumors are true about new Wii hardware, if it IS a Wii HD… Lets put it this way… Nintendo needs a hell of a lot more to match the horse power of the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. Besides… I wouldn’t be surprised if this supposed new hardware is just something really stupid like a Wii Easy Bake oven or a Wii Magic Hat… A Wii pony… I can go on forever here…

I mean, hardcores not so much. But, Nintendo has done a good job keeping the casual market. So, there is a good chance they could redeem themselves. I say stick to what they know best though and let the big boys have their fun.

No doubt San.
It’s actually kind of sad if you think about it… A once great company withered withered away into a casual catastrophe. Peddling shovel ware to the masses and compromising their own “Nintendo Seal of Quality”
Nintendo should be thanking their lucky stars that the Wii wasn’t a colossal failure, they would have ultimately ended up in the same situation Sega found themselves in about a decade ago.
